Brickell Key One has five board members. We were informed that the reason for the budget meeting’s cancellation—with only 15 minutes’ notice—was a lack of quorum.
A quorum requires only three board members.
So what happened?
Owners deserve an explanation. This meeting was legally noticed 30 days in advance. How is it possible that three out of five board members could not attend a meeting of this importance? If traffic was the issue, why schedule it for 6:00 PM in the first place?
This is not an isolated incident. It reflects a pattern of a board operating for its own convenience rather than serving the community. Consider the following:
- Election meetings scheduled on the Friday before Christmas in both 2024 and 2025
- A board meeting held on Good Friday (3/29/24)
- A board meeting scheduled on Shabbat during the High Holy Days (9/26/25)
- Too few meetings, which then run excessively long
- Meetings being closed during the required Q&A period
- A board member, Jose Massuh, failing to complete the state-mandated four-class certification for nine months (despite the 90-day legal requirement)
- Meetings set at inconvenient times, such as 6 PM on a Friday, when many owners are commuting or preparing for dinner, or family time
These board members campaigned on serving the community. That role requires time, effort, and personal sacrifice.
The other 313 Brickell Key One owners deserve better. As the iconic Star Trek quote says:
“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.”
