I am extremely frustrated by the ongoing dysfunction in our receiving area.
Thursday, after rummaging through bins myself, I located two of my packages. I went to the window and asked for my deliveries. I was handed one package and was told that is everything. I signed for only 1 of the 3 parcels I left with. The other 2 were not checked into the system.
When I got upstairs and opened them, I realized the package I needed—delivered on Monday (4 days prior) — was missing. I returned to receiving and asked if there were any more packages for my unit. Two more were then found. No signature needed.
At the time, there were three (3) people “working” in the room. Only one was operating. One was on his phone, and another was simply standing around. Two days later (Saturday) I learned there was another package that I did not know had arrived Wednesday the previous day to my visit. Why aren’t these packages being properly entered into the system? If they were:
- Staff would know exactly how many packages each unit has
- Residents would receive arrival notifications; in particular for holiday presents they may not be expecting
- Fewer packages would be lost or misplaced
- The area is open to all visitors / workers passing through the first floor
This situation exists because our board president fired one of two full-time receiving employees on a Friday—someone who did an excellent job. She closed Receiving on a Saturday. A second employee then quit after being left alone on Monday to deal with hundreds of packages piled up with no support. Now a second good employee gone, due to board micromanagement or mismanagement. There were only two full time receiving clerks. You know who benefited from all of this? The Jade Condo where two of our employees are now working including the dismissed receiving staffer. Guess what; they are a lot happier.
Stop firing staff without a backup plan. Start holding the board accountable.
